SGF Experiences Positive Passenger Growth in 2009

Feb 15, 2010

The Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF) ended 2009 on a positive note—a 4% increase in total passengers compared to 2008. SGF is the only major airport in the region to finish 2009 with positive passenger growth.

Renowned aviation analyst, Michael Boyd of the Boyd Group, states that there are several factors contributing to passenger growth. Those include: the relative strength of southwest Missouri economy, a new terminal building (pictured above), the growth of service on Allegiant Air, and competition from a new airport south of nearby Branson, Missouri. Compared to the same quarter in 2008, the average fare from the SGF was down 27.5% in the third quarter of 2009, which may well be a key factor of in the passenger growth figures.
