McLane to Open Grocery Distribution Facility

Feb 24, 2009

Governor Jay Nixon announced today McLane Company, Inc., a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., is planning a new 400,000 square foot distribution center in the City of Republic. The grocery distribution center will be a welcomed addition to Republic and to the Springfield region with 400 jobs expected at full capacity.

"It is McLane's policy to utilize local contractors and construction workers to build their facilities, so this project will benefit the local economy even further," Governor Nixon stated.

The 400,000 square foot facility will spur more than $60 million in capital investment and will be located near Highway 60 as well as Interstate 44. The average annual salary for jobs at the facility will be $32,259, which is five percent higher than the current average salary in the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area of $30,649.

"We're excited to see quality jobs coming to the region. This is evidence that in spite of economic conditions elsewhere, our region continues to grow and continues to be viewed by new and existing companies as a solid environment for doing business," says Jeff Seifried, Manager of Regional Development for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

McLane is a supply chain services leader, distributing over 10 billion pounds of merchandise to customers every year. For more information on the McLane Company visit www.mclaneco.com.
