May 15, 2006

Steady job growth during last few years has landed Springfield on Inc. Magazine's list of Hottest Mid-Sized Cities for entrepreneurs. The report appears in the May issue of the magazine and tracks job growth rates over several periods in order to determine the index rankings. "As always, our list...puts the focus on job growth, which we believe is the best measure of a region's economic vitality--especially as it applies to entrepreneurs."

Springfield ranked 25th in the mid-sized cities category which includes metro areas with an employment base of 150,000 to 450,000. (Springfield's current workforce is 217,608, as of March 2006.)

Also included on the mid-sized cities list are several of Springfield's peer cities such as Fayetteville, Boise, Knoxville and Des Moines. Kansas City and St. Louis were the only other Missouri cities to make any of the of the index coming in at 44 and 48, respectively, on the large cities list.
