FedEx to expand in Springfield with addition of FedEx Freight facility

Jul 24, 2008

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – FedEx has announced plans for a new facility in Springfield. The facility will house the company’s FedEx Freight operation. The 150-dock door distribution facility will employ 150 people with potential to expand to 250 doors and 250 employees.

The average annual salary for jobs at the facility will be $44,240, which is 45 percent higher than the current average annual salary in the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area of $30,649.

“These are exactly the type of high paying quality jobs that the Chamber and the Springfield Business & Development Corporation are striving to attract to our area,” says Greg Williams, senior vice president of economic development for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

The new 101,000 square foot facility will spur more than $18 million in capital investment and will be located near I-44 and Division Street, adjacent to the Partnership Industrial Park West.

Rich Kramer Construction has been selected as the general contractor on the project. Site work has already begun with a completion projected for spring of 2009.

FedEx Freight focuses on “Less-Than-Truckload” shipping options and shipments of more than 150 lbs. in the U.S. and internationally.
