Expansion shows no signs of slowing at Springfield-Branson Regional Airport
Jul 26, 2005
This morning, Allegiant Air announced direct service to Orlando, FL on a twice-a-week schedule. Orlando becomes the 11th city served from SGF and the second for Allegiant Air, a leisure destination, scheduled service airline.
In April 2005, Allegiant began service in Springfield with 2 flights per week to Las Vegas. Shortly after, the airline added 2 more flights to Las Vegas each week. Allegiant operates a fleet of 150-passenger MD-83 and MD-87 aircraft.
With Allegiant's announcements and the July expansion of Delta's service to now include non-stop service to Salt Lake City, the rapid passenger growth at the airport shows no signs of slowing down.
In the first half of 2005, passenger numbers have increased 25.1% over the first half of 2004. (The 721,958 passengers in 2004 was a record for SGF and a 10% increase over 2003.) Continuing at this pace, the airport will likely see 900,000 to 1 million passengers by the end of this year.
