AT&T hiring for downtown call center

AT&T Inc. has committed to hiring 27 for its downtown Springfield call center.

Adding to 30 recently filled positions at the 600 E. St. Louis St. center, the company is looking to hire service representatives specializing in AT&T's U-Verse service, according to a news release.

In the March 25 Springfield Business Journal story "AT&T, Mediacom battle for broadband," AT&T Missouri President John Sondag said U-Verse service, which came to the city about two years ago, is limited in Springfield. The Dallas-based company has invested $110 million in the Springfield area in wireless and wire-line networks for phone, Internet and cable customers during the last three years.

According to the release, service representatives at the call center can earn more than $51,000 in their first year by meeting benchmarks such as sales targets and quotas.

The new employees would start in June.
