2005 a banner year for Springfield-Branson National Airport
May 04, 2006
Record-setting growth in recent years has landed Springfield-Branson National Airport on the list of top performing U.S. airports. Data recently released by the Airports Council International shows SGF ranked 4th in 2005 passenger growth among all commercial airports with a 23.1% increase. This growth rate comes after a 10% growth rate in 2004 passengers and an 11% growth rate year-to-date for 2006. More than 880,000 passengers traveled through SGF through it's connections to 11 different hubs, with nearly 1 million anticipated by the end of 2006.
In addition to passenger growth, cargo shipment through the National Airport also increased at a rapid rate with nearly 40% growth in 2005 (over the previous year). This growth rate also ranked SGF as 4th in the nation of cargo tonnage.
Increased business activity in the Springfield regional economy is sited as a key factor in both the cargo and passenger growth.
