SPRINGFIELD ECONOMY AS TOP 20 |
|
Steady job growth during last few years
has landed Springfield on Inc. Magazine's list of Hottest
Mid-Sized Cities for entrepreneurs. The report appears in the May
issue of the magazine and tracks job growth rates over several
periods in order to determine the index rankings. "Strong
job growth suggests that an economy is expanding--which means plenty
of opportunity."
Springfield ranked 20th in the mid-sized cities category which
includes metro areas with an employment base of 150,000 to 450,000.
(Springfield's current workforce is 222,445, as of March 2007.)
Also included on the mid-sized cities top 20 list are several of
Springfield's peer cities such as Fayetteville and Boise as well as
six cities in Florida. Springfield was the only Missouri city to make a
top 20 list in its respective size category. |
