SPRINGFIELD
POPULATION NEARING 400,000 PEOPLE |
|
Consistent growth across all 5 counties in
Springfield’s metropolitan statistical area (MSA), has driven the 2004
population estimate to 390,986, according to data recently released
by the U.S. Bureau of the Census. The increase from 384,654 in 2003
represents a 1.6% rate of growth.
Christian County maintained its status as the fastest growing county
in Missouri and ranked 63rd nationally in growth since 2000, with an
increase of 2,709 people in the last year.
In just over 10 years, Springfield’s metro area has changed
from under 250,000 people to the current level and will top 400,000
in mid-2006. The addition of Webster (in 1992) and Polk and Dallas counties
(in 2002) to
the MSA and a population growth of over 2% annually are the main
reasons for the increases. |
