SPRINGFIELD
JOB GROWTH DRIVES STATE'S ECONOMY |
|
One quarter of all jobs created in Missouri in the past year were
created within the city limits of Springfield, supporting the claim
that Springfield is the state’s “economic engine.”
The most recent job growth figures from the Missouri Economic
Research and Information Center indicate that 24.2 percent of net
new jobs were created in Springfield, although the city accounts for
only 3.0 percent of the state’s total workforce of nearly 3 million
people.
While Kansas City showed a job loss and St. Louis experienced only
minimal growth, Springfield’s job growth led the state with 3.9
percent between March 2003 and March 2004.
Springfield's growth was strongest in the professional and business
services sector, wholesale trade and health care. |
