SPRINGFIELD RECOGNIZES IMPACT OF SMALL BUSINESS

According the U.S. Census Bureau, as many as 80 percent of all new jobs are created by small businesses. This is a fact worth noting for the Springfield area, where 98 percent of the establishments are considered small businesses. The small business community plays a large part in keeping our regional economy moving.

During a luncheon today, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce named its 2003 W. Curtis Strube Small Business of the Year. PFI Western Store earned top billing among the five finalists. Other contenders were Associated Video Producers, The Casey Associates, Custom Manufacturing & Polishing and The Law Firm of Neale & Newman.

The award is judged by an independent panel of judges which bases its selection on staying power, response to adversity, innovative products or services, business philosophy and contributions to the community.
