One of the most effective programs available to Springfield business and industry is the state-designated Enterprise Zone.  The Enterprise Zone allows business locating within the zone that create jobs and capital investment, a 50% real estate property tax abatement for up to 10 years.

Springfield's Enterprise Zone has proved successful since its inception in 1984 by assisting in the creation of over 7,700 jobs and nearly $400 million in capital investment through 158 different facilities. 

Springfield's total new job creation ranks 2nd in the state to Kansas City and accounts for 12% of all the jobs created statewide in the 64 different Enterprise Zones.  Springfield also ranks 2nd in total facilities (behind Kansas City, tied with St. Louis Midtown) with over 10% of the statewide total.
