- UNEMPLOYMENT RATE INCREASED IN NOVEMBER -

The latest unemployment numbers for the Springfield MSA show a 0.4% increase over October up to 3.1% for November 2001.  This the first time the rate has moved above 3.0% since August 1998.  Despite the rise in unemployment, Springfield's workforce continues to see steady growth.  Beginning the year at 176,700 the total workforce now sits at 182,600 which displays a growth rate of 3.4% for the last 11 months.  

Year-end workforce totals and unemployment rate averages will available mid-February.
